Loyola Brand Assets: Logos, Mascots, and Marks

Loyola’s official brand assets are among the university’s most valuable institutional properties. They embody our history, identity, and reputation, and their consistent use is critical to how Loyola is recognized and respected. These assets include all official logos, college and department logo extensions, the Presidential Seal, Wolfie, and any other proprietary marks, mascots, or illustrations developed under the direction of the Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC).

1. University Logos

Loyola’s official institutional logo is the primary mark of the university and must be used consistently across all applications. The logo is available in four approved formats:

  1. Horizontal graphic with logotype
  2. Vertical graphic with logotype
  3. Stacked logotype
  4. Horizontal logotype

The only acceptable colors for the official institutional logos are Loyola Maroon (PMS 202), black, or white. No other colors, treatments, or alterations are permitted.

All logo files must be obtained directly from the Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC). Self-created, modified, or extracted versions are not allowed.

Prohibited Uses

To preserve consistency and protect Loyola’s brand, the following are not permitted under any circumstances:

  • Creating alternate versions, lockups, or adaptations in Canva or other design tools
  • Combining the logo with other graphics, mascots, or marks
  • Cropping, redrawing, or recreating any part of the logo
  • Using the architectural graphic (Marquette) without the Loyola logotype
  • Recoloring the logo in non-approved colors
  • Adding effects such as gradients, outlines, bevels, or drop shadows
  • Stretching, squashing, rotating, or otherwise distorting proportions
  • Placing the logo on busy patterns or low-contrast backgrounds that impair visibility

Violations may result in immediate removal or rejection of materials at the department’s expense.

2. Division Logos

All departments, schools, colleges, centers, and programs are required to use the official Loyola logo lockup format. If your unit does not already have an approved lockup, contact OMC to obtain one.

Some units currently use unique marks developed outside the official lockup system. These will be phased out as Loyola transitions to a more intentional, unified brand strategy. Independent logos are no longer permitted as they fracture Loyola’s brand, confuse audiences, and undermine the university’s reputation.

A limited number of logos may fall into a gray area between university entities and fully independent initiatives. These units may request an exception. Exceptions must be formally reviewed and granted in writing by OMC and are subject to re-evaluation every three years.

Transition Timeline:

  • Effective October 1, 2025: Creation or approval of new independent marks is permanently prohibited.
  • By December 31, 2026: All legacy logos must be retired from use across all media.

After this deadline, any appearance of unapproved logos will be subject to immediate removal, replacement, or rejection at the department’s expense.

Official lockup files are available from OMC in approved formats. Files must be obtained directly from OMC; altered or self-made versions will not be accepted.

3. Presidential Seal

The Loyola University New Orleans Presidential Seal is reserved for formal use by the Office of the President and the Alumni Association. It may not be used by other entities without express written consent from OMC.

All requests for use must be submitted to OMC. Approved files will be provided directly; recreated or modified versions are prohibited.

4. “Wolfie” Character

Wolfie, Loyola’s illustrated wolf character, is a proprietary brand asset managed exclusively by OMC. All variations are controlled by the university.

Wolfie may not be used, reproduced, modified, displayed, or distributed without express written consent from OMC.

Unauthorized use—including copying, repurposing, or creating derivative illustrations—may result in removal of materials, cancellation of projects, or further action.

OMC retains final editorial and creative authority over all uses of Wolfie. Policies may evolve as trademark protections are finalized.

5. Co-Branding and Sponsor Marks
  • All co-branded materials require OMC review and approval
  • Sponsor logos must remain secondary to Loyola branding
  • Sponsor-first layouts are not permitted
  • Noncompliant materials may be rejected or removed
